General Information
1. Registration for the Thesis
Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences

Business Administration: The bachelor’s and master’s theses in the field of ‘Business Administration’ are allocated via KLIPS2.0. The period of registration is the first KLIPS selection period.

Direct application to Prof. Dr. Kunz and/or Ms. Kleer (in justified cases): independent of the enrollment period; registration on selected dates in the following semester.

The topics are assigned by the supervisor and communicated to the students on the day of registration.

The topics of the bachelor’s and master’s theses are usually closely linked to our ongoing research areas and projects. Find out more about our research areas here. Here you can find an overview of the topics of theses that have been assigned in the past. Bachelor's theses can be written either in German or in English. Master’s theses should be written in English.
Registration dates (usually at the beginning and during the lecture period):

The official processing time begins with the registration of the thesis.
Processing time:

Bachelor’s thesis: max. 12 weeks (max. 40 pages, text including figures and tables)

Master’s thesis: max. 6 month (max. 60 pages, text including figures and tables)
2. Proposals
Students who have successfully registered for their thesis have the opportunity to submit up to three proposals during their processing time (optional). Based on these proposals (in .docx format), students will receive feedback (in person, via ZOOM, by phone/e-mail).
The proposals can contain, for instance, a (preliminary) agenda of the thesis, a description of the procedure or several questions that arise during the processing.
Please send the proposals (like all e-mail correspondence) from your sMail account to Prof. Dr. Kunz (reinhard.kunz@uni-koeln.de) and Ms. Kleer (nicola.kleer@uni-koeln.de).
Guidelines for the proposals:

Length: approx. 2-3 pages (including an agenda, references, figures/tables, etc.)

Font: Times New Roman, font size: 12; line spacing: 1.5

List of references (sources listed in the proposal; alphabetic order)

Bachelor's theses: Last name-BA-Prop-01-initials

The 2nd and 3rd proposals should be named accordingly (02; 03)

3. Submission
Submission to the Department
The thesis has to be summited by the deadline specified by the examination office. Students have to hand in one unbound, punched and one bound copy at the Department of Media and Technology Management, Pohligstraße 1, 50969 Cologne (letter box of the department INSIDE the building, first floor). In addition, an unprotected, electronic version (Docx format) on a USB flash drive, CD, or DVD* must be submitted.
Please note: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the requirements for submitting the thesis may differ. Please contact your supervisor for further information.
*All relevant documents (e.g., literature research document, coding tables, SPSS output) should be saved on the USB flash drive, CD, or DVD.

If you cannot send these documents/files by e-mail, please use a file hosting provider (e.g., Sciebo, Dropbox, Google Drive) and send us the respective link to the folder.
Submission to the Examination Office
Please adhere to the formal requirements set by the examination office. The requirements of the examination office may differ from those of our professorship.
4. Guideline and Template
Further information including formal requirements as well as useful suggestions for the content and structure of a thesis are included in our guideline, which will be sent to students by e-mail (sMail account) after a successful registration.
